Dr. Abdel Aziz Abu Hamad Aluwaisheg is Director General of the External Economic Relations Department at the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Before joining the GCC, he served as a staff economist in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs at the United Nations in New York. Dr. Aluwaisheg was Adjunct professor of econometrics, development economics, and international trade at Columbia University and New School University in New York as well as Advisor to the Minister of Labor in Saudi Arabia. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from New York University and J.S.D. in International Trade Law from Columbia University. He is the author of numerous studies on the GCC Customs Union, fiscal policies in the GCC countries, and the role of workers’ remittances in the GCC countries balance of payments.
