Prince Khaled Al-Faisal bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud is the Governor of Makkah Province in western Saudi Arabia, which includes Islam’s holiest city, Mecca, as well as Saudi Arabia’s main seaport and second largest city, Jeddah. From 1971-2007, His Royal Highness served as the Governor of the Asir Province of south-western Saudi Arabia, a spectacular region which has inspired the Prince both as an amateur artist as well as a national and international patron of the arts. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, who founded the Painting & Patronage initiative in 1999, has exhibited his paintings at significant cultural events in Saudi Arabia and other countries, including France, Germany, Lebanon, Morocco, Portugal, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom. In 2000 and 2001, Prince Khaled Al-Faisal held joint exhibitions in London and Riyadh with HRH The Prince of Wales and Mr James Hart-Dyke. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal is also the Director General of the King Faisal Foundation, one of the largest philanthropic and charitable foundations in the world which hosts the renowned annual King Faisal International Prize ceremony. Prior to his appointment as Governor of Asir, Prince Khaled Al-Faisal served as Director General of the Presidency of Youth Welfare. He has a degree in Political Economy from the Oxford University, UK. His contribution to furthering cultural and educational ties has been widely acknowledged. In 2005, he received from the President of the Portuguese Republic the insignia of Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Infante Dom Henrique.
